The shocking statistics of crimes committed by illegals in the US
The national debate in America of late has been dominated by the ongoing issue of immigration. Most notably the topic of conversation has revolved around the fate of the DACA recipients or “Dreamers” as they are colloquially referred to and Donald Trump’s proposal to grant 1.8 million of them amnesty. DACA recipients are often praised by the left as being the best of the best. Indeed there are some DACA recipients who have gone on to achieve some great things in the US, but this is not true when it comes to illegal immigration as a whole. As of 2015, it was estimated that there were 11 million illegal immigrants in the US.
According to some thinktanks, there is no empirical evidence to show that illegals commit more crime than the rest of the population. There are a couple of ways this can be looked at. This issue is one that is highly politicised, and depending on the political connotation of the thinktank involved, you may receive one answer from one as compared to another. I also look at it like this: It doesn’t matter if they do or don’t, one person murdered by an illegal is one American that has been failed by the system and the advocates of open borders. But digging a bit deeper, there is empirical evidence to be found that supports the claim that illegals do commit more crime than the indigenous population.
In 2010, The Department of Arizona corrections reported that illegal immigrants were over represented in the prison population as compared to American citizens. While the population of Arizona only compromised of roughly 7 percent of illegals, they made up 14 percent of the prison population. The data from the findings commissioned by the Department of Homeland Security showed that illegals accounted for 40 percent of prisoners serving time in jail for kidnapping, 24 percent of those serving time for drug offences and 13 percent of those serving time for murder.
Studies have found some of the nations biggest gangs are largely comprised of illegal immigrants. 80 percent of members in the Los Angeles based 18th Street gang were found to be illegal immigrants according to a 2009 study. The gang was found to have a membership ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 and were active in 20 states in America.
A gang which has been in the news recently due to its sheer brutality is the street gang MS-13. MS-13 is well known for preying on vulnerable illegal immigrants and some reports have placed the number of members who are illegal immigrants as high as 90 percent. The gang reportedly consists of anywhere from 8,000 to 10,000 members. In Northern Virginia alone, there are believed to be up to 3,000 active gang members belonging to MS-13. 71 percent of gang members arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under “Operation Community Shield” which spanned from 2005-2007 were registered as illegals.
Fox News sorted through an assortment of local and federal data some years back and compiled their findings in relation to illegal immigrant crime. It was found in the data that 13.6 percent of all crimes committed in America was done so by illegals. Illegals only made up roughly 3.3 percent of the total population of the United States. It also found that illegals accounted for 12 percent of all murder sentences and 16 percent of all drug trafficking sentences.
A study by Judicial Watch also found of the 61,529 federal cases pursued by federal prosecutors in 2014, 24,746 were filed by courts in states which straddled the Mexican border. Many of these federal offences were also immigration related. 23,744 to be precise. The most common federal crimes were drug offences which made up 22 percent of crimes and violent crime which accounted for 19.7 percent of crimes.
Following the death of his son, Don Rosenberg set out on a mission to calculate how many illegals were responsible for road deaths in the US. Don’s son Drew Rosenberg was killed by unlicensed driver Roberto Galo in November 2010. Galo hit Drew while he was driving his motorbike and in his panic to get away, he ran over Drew twice more. Drew Rosenberg was only 25-years-old. Galo, a Honduran entered the country illegally but was granted temporary protective status.
Following research from Don Rosenberg, he discovered that of the 7,500 people killed by unlicensed drivers each year, up to half of those drivers were illegal immigrants. He has since testified before lawmakers with his findings and he regularly posts his analysis from his non-profit organization on his website unlicensedtodrive.org.
Under the Obama administration, 121 murders were committed by illegals that were released back into the community. Many high-profile deaths have been attributed to illegals in recent years, such as the tragic death of Kate Steinle at the hands of an illegal in San Francisco, but finding figures on just how many people have been murdered at the hands of illegals is proving difficult, and as is with many statistics when it comes to illegal immigration, conflicting.
Figures released by Steve King (R) of Iowa back in 2006 showed that illegals murdered 12 people each day in America. Translated into annual numbers that would be equal 4,380 murders committed by illegals every year.
These statistics show that illegals do certainly contribute to the crime problem in America, and in many cases they seem to account for a larger total in respects to proportionally. Regardless of the argument over statistics, just one American killed or hurt by a person who should not be in the country is a failure of many of the representatives who citizens entrust with their protection.
Politicians in states such as California that adopt such a lax attitude towards immigration are as equally culpable as the illegals who commit these crimes. If there was a drive by all politicians to abide by federal immigration law, these people would not be in the country in the first place. The lesson people should learn from the crimes which are committed by illegals is that regardless of the leftist spin on figures, 1 life is 1 too many. Politicians should never put the interests of illegal immigrants over the lives of their own citizens. Any politician that is guilty of this has the blood of the many victims on their hands.
