Yusuf Aka, aged 20 charged with stabbing at Leicester hospital
A man has been charged after a 24-year-old man was stabbed at a Leicester hospital. Yusuf Aka, aged 20 and from the Leicester area appeared in magistrates’ court on Wednesday charged with wounding with intent, affray and possessing an offensive weapon. Police were called to Leicester Royal Infirmary at 02:20 on Tuesday to reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival they discovered a man had been damaging equipment and threatening staff, a 24-year-old man had also sustained stab wounds.
According to the Daily Express, one witness described how a man in a hoodie entered the hospital and threw the knife at an elderly woman before picking up a monitor and smashing it over the head of an elderly gentleman. Following the chaos, the suspect was wrestled to the floor by hospital security staff and overpowered. No members of staff were harmed by the man and the only other injury received during the incident was a superficial facial injury received by a member of the public. No motive has been established as to why the man went on the rampage. The injured 24-year-old man who was stabbed by the knifeman is said to be in a stable condition.
