Elderly man dies after being robbed in East London
An 82-year-old man who was savagely beaten during a robbery in Newham, East London last year has died in hospital. Ahmet Dobran was attacked by 3 men on the 27th August of last year who hit him with a stick and then punched and kicked him to the ground and then proceeded to steal his Longine watch from his wrist. He was also robbed of a gold bracelet during the attack. During the attack, Mr Dobran lost consciousness and it was later discovered he had suffered a broken back.
Mr Dobran, who is originally from Cyprus died in hospital in the early hours of Monday morning. Detectives from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime command are now investigating the case to try to ascertain whether the injuries Mr Dobran sustained during the attack contributed to his death. A 33-year-old man was arrested and charged with the incident on December 12th but police are still searching for his two accomplices. In a statement Detective Inspector Iain Wallace, of Newham CID said “Mr Dobran was hospitalised following the attack in August and had been in an induced coma for several weeks until he was recently introduced to a nursing home. Sadly Mr Dobran’s health deteriorated soon after and he was taken to hospital and passed away.
“His family are utterly devastated and, whilst we are unable to ascertain at this time that he died as a result of the attack, we do know that at the very least it may have aggravated other existing conditions. We await the results of the post-mortem to determine this.”
He then went onto say: “Whilst one of the men has now been identified and charged we are still keen to trace two other men who are still outstanding. Someone knows who these men are and I would urge them to come forward to stop them from using the same level of violence on another vulnerable person.”
