20 men arrested on historic abuse charges in same town grooming gang operated
20 men have been arrested by West Yorkshire police this week by police officers investigating claims of historic abuse of a woman when she was a child. The allegations were made by one woman about abuse which is alleged to have taken place in the Halifax area between 2006 and 2009. The men, who were aged between 28 and 43 were taken into custody after addresses in the Kirklees and Calderdale area were searched this week.
Back in 2016, 15 men were jailed for systematically grooming and abusing teenage girls in the area of Calderdale. The men were part of what has become known in the UK as a “Muslim grooming gang.” There has been no official confirmation that these arrests today are linked to that investigation.
All 20 of the men have been bailed, with 18 pending further investigation and 2 on police bail. Detective Inspector Allan Raw, of Calderdale District Safeguarding, said ‘These are abhorrent crimes that affect the most vulnerable in our society,” he then went onto say that they would “work closely with local authorities and other organizations and charities to support victims, bring offenders to justice and make our community safer.”
