ICE Agents conduct nationwide raids on 7-Eleven stores
US immigration officials have conducted nationwide raids on nearly 100 7-Eleven stores in a crackdown on undocumented workers. The raids took place before dawn on Wednesday and saw 21 people arrested in the operation. The company is suspected of being one of the biggest violators when it comes to hiring undocumented workers. 98 stores were raided nationwide in 17 states from California to Florida, from cities such as New York to Los Angeles. In a statement ICE’s Acting Director said “Today’s actions send a strong message to U.S. businesses that hire and employ an illegal workforce.” He went on to add that ICE would strive to enforce the law and hold anyone accountable who was found to be in contravention of the law.
The raids are thought to be a pre-cursor for more raids against businesses that have been openly violating the nations immigrations laws, another top ICE official Derek N. Benner said that these raids were just a “harbinger of what’s to come.” These raids are part of a renewed effort to enforce immigration laws under the Trump administration. During Trump’s time in office, there has already been a 40 percent increase in the number of arrests made in relation to deportation.
Liberal cities and immigration advocates which have been in flagrant violation of immigration laws for years have already come out and condemned the move. One publication on the net called commondreams.org described the agents involved in the raids as “unnerving.” On the article from commondreams.org it reported that the National Immigration Law Centre called the move “extremely unnerving” and quoted employment legal advocate at Make the Road at New York Cristobal Gutierrez as saying the raids are “yet another example of the escalating attacks from the Trump administration and its rogue ICE agents on immigrant communities.”
I really don’t know how this man can describe the ICE agents involved in this operation as “rogue.” If the enforcement of laws on the books and statutes hurts the “feels” of the criminals who are violating the laws of the US makes the officers “rogue” in the eyes of the left, they have a lot of soul searching and growing up to do.
